Precision horological work at Sang Kala

Why Sang Kala

Structured Work, Honest Advice, No Hidden Steps

What sets a workshop apart is not what it promises — it's what it documents, what it declines, and what it explains without being asked.

Core Advantages

What You Can Rely On

Documented from Intake

Every piece arrives to a written condition report and full photographic record. You will see the same documentation.

Agreement Before Work

Scope, cost, and timeline are discussed and agreed before service begins. Nothing proceeds on assumption.

Component-Level Inspection

Each part is examined at high magnification — wear, micro-fractures, degraded surfaces — before any replacement decision is made.

Calibre-Matched Lubrication

Lubricant viscosity is matched to each friction point — not a uniform application across unrelated components.

Geometry-Faithful Finishing

Bracelet refinishing follows the original surface plan — directional grain, polished radii, and crisp transitions are preserved, not approximated.

Multi-Day Timing Observation

Reassembled movements are observed across multiple positions over several days before collection — not a single dial check on the day of completion.

Deep Expertise

Trained Hands for Complex Movements

Our team holds collective experience across Swiss and Japanese calibres spanning manual-wind dress movements, automatic sports calibres, and manually-wound chronographs. This is not a generalist setting — each service type is handled by the technician best suited to its architecture.

  • Movement overhaul across mechanical and automatic calibres
  • Chronograph complication servicing — column wheel and cam-lever types
  • Vintage movement handling with awareness of original specification

14+ Years Combined Experience

The Sang Kala team has serviced movements from a wide range of manufacturers — from entry sport automatics to complex heritage chronographs with no remaining service documentation.

A Process You Can Follow

From intake documentation through to final regulation, the steps of every service are available to you. We don't treat process as proprietary — we share it because it is the basis of your trust in the outcome.

Transparent Process

Nothing Concealed, Nothing Assumed

Horological service is often treated as a black box — a watch goes in, a number comes out, and the client is asked to trust the result. At Sang Kala, the intake record, scope agreement, and any parts decisions are discussed openly at each stage.

  • Written intake condition report shared with owner
  • Parts decisions discussed before replacement
  • Final timing observation results available on request

Clear Pricing

Indicative Cost from the Start

Pricing is discussed at intake. Service starts from MYR 720 for bracelet work and MYR 980 for movement overhaul. Heritage chronograph service from MYR 1,790. Any variance from the initial estimate — due to parts condition or scope change — is communicated before it is incurred.

  • Indicative pricing at intake, not at collection
  • No scope additions without owner agreement
  • Transparent parts cost when relevant

No Surprises at Collection

The figure discussed at intake is the figure you encounter at collection, unless an agreed change was made during service. We consider this a basic courtesy, not an exceptional practice.

What Sets Us Apart

Distinctive Aspects of Our Service

Photographic Documentation as Standard

Full photographic record at intake is standard, not optional. The images form part of your service file and are available to you.

Restraint as a Practice

We service what genuinely requires attention. A component that can be cleaned and regulated rather than replaced will be. This is our approach, not a selling point.

Heritage Calibre Competence

Vintage and inherited pieces receive particular attention given the absence of service history and the irreplaceability of original components.

Tropical Climate Awareness

Our assessments account for Malaysia's warm, humid climate — including lubricant degradation patterns and seal condition considerations relevant to tropical wear.
